How it works

Five steps, and the whole thing takes about a minute.

  1. 1

    Check your phone supports eSIM

Most phones released since about 2018 do, but it must also be network-unlocked. Look in your settings for “Add eSIM” or “Add Data Plan”. If that option exists, you are supported. A phone locked to a network cannot use another provider's eSIM even if it supports the technology, so check before you buy.

  2. 2

    Pick your destination and pay

Choose the country you are travelling to and how much data you want. One price, shown before you pay, in your own currency.

  3. 3

    Scan the QR code

We show it on screen and email it to you. Scan it with the phone you are travelling with, or open the email on a laptop and scan from there. Do this at home while you still have Wi-Fi.

  4. 4

    Name it SILA eSIM

When your phone asks for a name or label for the new line, call it SILA eSIM. It makes the right line easy to find when you turn on data roaming. Already installed? Rename it in your phone's SIM settings.

  5. 5

Turn on data roaming when you land

This is the step people miss. Every eSIM plan is a roaming profile on a partner network, so with data roaming off your phone will refuse to connect. It is a per-SIM setting: switch it on for the Sila eSIM only and your normal line is untouched.

Your validity starts when you connect

Not when you buy. So you can order days ahead and install at home without losing any of your plan. Once it first reaches a network abroad the clock starts and runs continuously. It cannot be paused.

You keep your own number

Sila plans are data only, with no phone number attached. Use WhatsApp, FaceTime or Telegram over the data. Your normal SIM stays in the phone and keeps receiving calls and bank verification texts, so you lose nothing by leaving it enabled.
